This historic Toronto Beaches home boasted an expansive primary ensuite that was lacking functionality. Despite its generous footprint, the space was underutilized, leaving the homeowners in need of additional storage space and a private water closet.

To maximize efficiency, we transformed the previously unused area beneath the window into a striking focal point, featuring a sleek, freestanding tub. The outdated tub-shower combo was removed in favor of an enlarged double steam shower, elevating the ensuite into a spa-like retreat. To further enhance functionality, we introduced custom built-in closets in the ante-room along with a private water closet, transforming otherwise wasted space into a seamless extension of the primary suite.

Honoring the home’s historic charm was paramount. We preserved the original door casings and bead-board walls, thoughtfully integrating new design elements that complemented the period details. To echo the half-height bead-board, we introduced rectangular marble tiles to the same height, accentuating the vertical lines and aligning a marble molding with the chair rail and finished with hexagonal mosaics.

The guest bathroom also received a sophisticated refresh. Maintaining the existing layout, we infused warmth and modernity with a rich walnut vanity and classic Carrara marble mosaic tiles, ensuring harmony with the home’s overall aesthetic while bringing new life to the space.
