From the antique wood casings to the gauzy linen curtains, every inch of this living room in Toronto’s Lytton Park reflects our clients’ love for the harmonious blend of classical and modern design. They turned to Isabel Clune Design for our expertise in seamlessly marrying old and new, seeking a refresh for their living space that honored its history while embracing contemporary comfort. The design effortlessly combines accessible, mid-century modern-inspired furnishings with the home’s historic charm, using muted earthy tones and tactile textures.

A key inspiration for the room came from the clients’ vibrant orange artwork, which we highlighted in the cozy reading nook. Previously, the living room was centered around the TV and lacked functionality for entertaining. To enhance both form and function, we introduced additional seating areas, including a serene reading corner with a blue womb chair and a welcoming daybed along the window wall—inviting moments of relaxation.

In preserving the character of this century-old home, we maintained its original wood casings, black marble fireplace, and craftsman-style fireplace tiles. The decor is a thoughtfully curated mix of antiques, custom pillows, high-end furniture, and accessible big-box finds, striking a balance between sophistication, coziness, and everyday livability. We echoed the warmth of the wood casings in the base of the coffee table and daybed, while sheer linen curtains enhance the soft, natural glow streaming through the stunning original windows. A mix of chrome, nickel, and black metal accents adds contrast, softened by an abundance of earthy plants and florals.

At Isabel Clune Design, we pride ourselves on creating spaces that feel deeply personal and unique. Collaborating closely with the clients, we incorporated some of their most treasured decorative pieces, thoughtfully styling them on surfaces and the fireplace mantel. The result is a living room that feels both lived-in and seamlessly connected to the rest of their home—an inviting, elegant space designed for gathering, relaxing, and making memories.
