This expansive traditional home in Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines, was in need of a thoughtful interior architectural revamp. Despite its generous footprint, the space was underutilized, with wasted areas and insufficient storage. To enhance both form and function, we completely reimagined the layout of the ground floor, optimizing sight-lines and flow.

The kitchen underwent a dramatic transformation, with all plumbing and appliances relocated to improve circulation and create space for a fully integrated entertaining bar, coffee station, and a spacious built-in breakfast banquette overlooking the lush backyard and pool. Walls were strategically adjusted to expand the mudroom, allowing for proper storage, dedicated laundry and ample counter space. Though the powder room was reduced in size, its functionality was vastly improved by repositioning the vanity along the window wall.

The clients dreamt of a design that felt modern yet harmonized with the home’s traditional character. We introduced warm walnut finishes, jewel-toned paints, and a striking mix of black marble and beige quartzite. We added a series of classically inspired archways, leading into the dining room, mudroom, and powder room, echoing the custom arched powder room door that we moved to align with the new aches for a classical, repeating effect. Unexpected pops of red bring vibrancy to the powder room and the interior of the coffee bar millwork, adding an element of playful surprise.

To enhance the home’s English country-inspired aesthetic, we selected classic patterned floor tiles, traditional cabinetry details, and authentic English gold plumbing fixtures. The 1990s fireplace in the living room was modernized with a French limestone mantel, complementing the English stone flooring in the kitchen. Rich royal blue cabinetry in the living room features walnut accents and brass toggle hardware, ensuring that each corner of the home offers a unique and curated moment.

Green, the client’s favorite color, became a unifying thread throughout the design. We incorporated green chinoiserie wallpaper in the dining room, deep emerald cabinetry in the mudroom, soft sage kitchen cabinets, and a delicate pistachio green in their son’s nursery—creating a home layered with personality and thoughtful detail.
